VIDA Faculty Leading DOE Genesis Mission Project to Accelerate AI-Driven Discovery

Profs. Freire and Hegde will help to design a network of AI agents that divide labor, share compact knowledge tokens, and work together to accelerate discovery through the project DAISY (Decentralized Agentic Intelligence System for Scientific Inquiry), led by Iowa State University in collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory.
NYU has announced that faculty across Arts and Science, Courant, and Tandon will help develop AI tools for quantum computing, decentralized scientific reasoning, and automated hypothesis generation.
DAISY (Decentralized Agentic Intelligence System for Scientific Inquiry) is led by Iowa State University in collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory, with VIDA's Chinmay Hegde, an associate professor of computer science and engineering, and VIDA Co-Director Juliana Freire, an Institute Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at NYU’s Tandon School of Engineering. NYU will help lead development of the platform's core toolkit, with early applications planned in materials science, crop breeding for bioenergy, and the power grid.
